Nick joined the Creative Leadership and Enterprise Centre, Cardiff School of Management in April 2009. Prior to that he was a Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Advanced Studies, School of City and Regional Planning, Cardiff University. Nick's main research interests lie in the fields of regional economics, small business and entrepreneurship, networks, business strategy, innovation and creativity. He has published numerous working papers, articles (e.g. Regional Studies, European Planning Studies) and conference papers (Regional Studies Association, American Association of Geographers) on these subjects.
Nick has recently been involved in associated research and consultancy projects for the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), The Scottish Executive, the WDA, the National Assembly for Wales, and the National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts (NESTA). He has been an invited speaker for a diverse range of organisations including the University of the Basque Country, University of Seville, Local Economy Policy Unit, Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, Targeting Innovation Ltd, and Cardiff Unitary Authority. He was a contributor to the Cardiff Council's Economic Scrutiny Committee's report into the impact of the Wales Millennium Centre, and to the Institute of Welsh Affairs 3rd Term Agenda: Policy Options for Wales - Economic Development Group. Graduating from Cardiff Business School with a degree in Economics, Nick subsequently gained a PhD from the same institution.
